Police reward kids for wearing helmets
July 14, 2008, Canton, MI This summer Canton Police Department is participating in the 4th annual Caught Being Safe campaign, rewarding kids who are caught wearing helmets while bike riding or rollerblading. When on routine patrol, police officers spotting a child wearing a helmet will reward them with a coupon for a free ice cream cone or Apple Dipper from McDonalds.
This program is presented by ThinkFirst Michigan, an award-winning trauma prevention program at St. Marys Michigan. McDonalds Restaurants of Michigan are supporting the cause by providing 100,000 coupons to be shared among 573 police and fire departments throughout Michigan.
Biking and other summer safety tips are available at www.cantonpuublicsafety.org.
