Detroit Police Officer arrested on Domestic Related Charges
Gary Allen Steele w/m 42, was arrested on Tuesday March 04, 2008 at approximately 12:22 PM by Canton Police after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in her Canton home. The victim alleges she was choked, assaulted with a baseball bat and threatened by Steele who also discharged his firearm inside the residence three times. Steele was taken into custody without incident by Canton Police responding to the scene following a frantic call from the victim. Steele had fled the scene and was arrested following a traffic stop of his vehicle.
Canton Police will conduct a full investigation and submit a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for their review.

March 6 2008, Canton, MI – Gary Allen Steele was arraigned today in front of Judge Mike Gerou of the 35th District Court today on the following charges;
- Torture, Felony: Life or any term of years
- Assault with intent to murder, Felony: Life or any term of years
- Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. Felony: 10 years
- Assault with a dangerous weapon (Felonious Assault). Felony: 4 years
- Assault with a dangerous weapon (Felonious Assault). Felony: 4 years
- Weapons-Firearms-Discharge in or at a building. Felony: 4 years
- Weapons-Felony firearm. Felony 2 years
A not guilty plead was entered on his behalf by his attorney John Goldpaugh and bond was set at $5,000,000.00-10% with conditions of no contact.
The exam date is scheduled for Monday March 17th 2008 @ 9:00 a.m.
The defendant will be transferred from the Canton police station to the Wayne County Jail later this date.
