September is National Preparedness Month
Prepare for the unexpected by taking action now!
August 28, 2008, Canton, MI - As Michigan communities continue to recover from destructive storms and tornadoes, citizens are reminded to begin preparing before an emergency situation occurs. Accordingly, President Bush and Governor Jennifer M. Granholm have proclaimed September as Preparedness Month.
This year marks the sixth annual National Preparedness Month, organized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to encourage Americans nationwide to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools.
To assist the Canton community, Cantons Emergency Management Division is offering two projects for residents to do. The first is for residents to revisit the Do 1 Thing program which involves doing one thing a month toward getting prepared. The other project is 30 Days of Emergency Preparedness. Each day in September, take one tip to help you and your family become better prepared for an emergency. Details are available on this website under Emergency Management.
The Emergency Management Division would also like to urge Canton businesses to develop an emergency preparedness/response/recovery plan. There is a sample emergency site plan on the website. Visit the Emergency Management section of this website to get you, your family and area businesses started. Or contact Cantons Emergency Management Planner by phone at 734-394-5357 or email krich@canton-mi.org.
