Explorer unit competes in Annual Governor's Cup competition

April 22, 2008, Canton, MI - Canton Police Departments Explorer Unit recently competed in the 28th Annual Governors Cup Competition held in Alpena, Michigan. Approximately 30 Explorer teams from around the state competed in four categories including: crime scene investigation, domestic violence scenario, felony traffic stop and building search. Cantons team won first place in crime scene investigation and second place in building searches, and finished 6th overall in the competition.

The Canton Police Explorer Unit is made up of students ages 14-20 who are seriously interested in exploring a career in law enforcement. The program provides serious, realistic exposure of the law enforcement career. Explorers in the program train bi-weekly on a wide variety of topics. Explorers are taught the procedures used by officers and learn the basic elements of the subject matter. Explorers must also maintain the physical, moral and scholastic standards required to be a member in the program.

Cantons Explorer program is funded through private donations and community fundraisers. The unit would like to thank everyone who has supported through donations during the past year, especially WalMart and Superbowl, both located on Ford Road in Canton.

For more information on the Explorer program or to make a donation, contact Sergeant Robert Sidor at the Canton Police Department, 734/394-5400.
