January 25, 2008, Canton, MI – Sallie Mae Lockhart, 74, of Westland has been identified as the fatal victim of the traffic crash occurring on Palmer near Haggerty Road, on Thursday, January 24, 2008.  Police officials are still awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

Serious Injury Traffic Crash – Original Release 

January 24, 2008, Canton, MI - On Thursday 01/24/2008 at approximately 6:45 p.m. Canton police and fire responded to the area of Palmer and Haggerty on a reported 3 car accident.

Upon arrived officer rendered aid to the 74 year old female driver who appeared to have suffered serious injuries. She was subsequently transported to St Joe’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. All other persons were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the female driver, and resident of Westland, was traveling east on Palmer Rd after exiting a CVS drug store. Witnesses describe the vehicle as drifting over the centerline and striking oncoming traffic head on.

The accident investigation team was activated and responded. At this time there is no indication that either drugs or alcohol played any part in this accident. An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death and the case remains under investigation. The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
