Fire department receives unique donation

June 5, 2008, Canton, MI - Today Canton Fire Department received a unique donation of 15 animal oxygen masks to be used specifically for dogs that are suffering from smoke inhalation.

The masks were donated by Canton resident Christy Jones.  Jones had contacted Canton Fire Department to inquire as to whether the department carried the animal oxygen masks with their fire equipment.  When she was informed that was something the department did not normally stock, she took it upon herself to purchase the devices and arrange the donation through Fire Chief Michael Rorabacher.

Rorabacher was on hand to receive the donation and thanked Jones.  "We've made due with available masks for pets when needed, but now having the specifically designed units will certainly be a benefit," Rorabacher stated.  The masks will be placed on fire apparatus at all three stations in Canton.
