July 3, 2008, Canton, MI On Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Canton Township Board Meeting, township officials will recognize Nabil Fawzi for his heroic act of stopping a bank robbery in progress. 

On June 17, 2008, Mr. Fawzi was inside Comerica Bank on Michigan Avenue when another patron handed a bank teller a note stating he was robbing the bank.  Fawzi realized what was going on and immediately removed his licensed concealed weapon and pointed it at the suspect, ending the robbery.  Fawzi then held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived, at which time he surrendered his weapon.

Thanks to Mr. Fawzis quick action, the suspect was later charged with 1 count of bank robbery and 1 count of habitual third offender. 

The board meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
