October 3, 2008, Canton, MI Today Canton hosted a Vehicle Technology Awareness and Roadway Safety Class in the Professional Development Center at the Summit.

The class, underwritten by the Michigan Municipal Management Authority, MMRMA, educates firefighters and police officers on how to deal with vehicles featuring multiple airbags, high voltage hybrid electrical systems and the hi-tech alloy metals surrounding passenger compartments.  While these improvements greatly enhance passenger safety, they can be a significant risk to rescuers and vehicle occupants if care is not taken while extricating the patient.

The class is instructed by Ron Moore, a nationally recognized educator from McKinney, Texas.  The class is attended by Public Safety personnel from across Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.  The course included a classroom lecture and a hands-on demonstration of vehicles for the participants.
