Fire Department hires two firefighters and announces new fire inspector
January 24, 2008, Canton, MI – Canton Firefighter Matt Niemczewski recently began his new position with the department as a Fire Inspector. Niemczewski, 23, completed his firefighter/paramedic training at Schoolcraft College. He was hired by the department in 2007, and prior to that worked for Livonia Fire Department. Niemczewski will now join the Fire Prevention Unit which is primarily responsible for ensuring new and existing buildings meet all fire code regulations. Fire Prevention also uses a variety of methods to educate the public, including classes, fire prevention consulting and the use of the department’s Fire Safety House for children.
Canton Fire Department has also hired two new firefighters this month, Cory Caincross and Matthew Long.
Caincross, 24, completed his firefighter/paramedic training at Schoolcraft College and Michigan Academy. Prior to starting with Canton he worked for Huron Township Fire Department.
Long, 23, completed his firefighter/paramedic training at Schoolcraft College where he also earned his Associate's Degree in Fire Science.
Candidates for the Canton Fire Department go through a rigorous testing process that includes both written and physical agility tests, oral board, medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background check.
