January 28, 2008, Canton, MI – This morning jury members found Carol Ann Poole guilty of Second Degree Murder, a felony punishable by any number of years-up to life in prison; Involuntary Manslaughter, a felony punishable by up to 15-years in prison; and First Degree Child Abuse, a felony punishable by up to 15-years in prison.  Wayne County Third Circuit Court Judge Ulysses W. Boykin set Poole’s sentencing date for Monday, February 25, 2008.

Arraignment - Update

October 2, 2006, Canton, MI - This afternoon Carol Ann Poole, 40 of Canton, was arraigned at 35th District Court on charges stemming from the death of her two-year old foster child.  Allison Newman died on September 22; the result of a traumatic head injury.

Poole is being charged with Felony Murder, punishable by up to life in prison without parole, Involuntary Manslaughter, a 15-year felony, and Child Abuse-First Degree, a 15-year felony.  Bond was denied by Judge John E. MacDonald.  Poole will be processed by Canton Police Department and turned over to Wayne County Jail.  The preliminary exam is scheduled for November 8, 2006 at 35th District Court in Plymouth.

Two-year old foster child dies – Original Release

September 22, 2006, Canton, MI - Just after 2 a.m. this morning Canton Police and Fire dispatch received a 911 call reporting an unconscious two-year old girl.  Emergency units responded to the 2600 block of Emily Court, and found the unresponsive toddler.  Rescue transported the girl to Annapolis Hospital where she was then med-flighted to University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.  The toddler shows signs of head trauma and is in critical condition.

At the time of the call the two-year old was in foster care with her 40-year old foster mother.  Canton Police are investigating the injuries.
