Serious injury traffic crash

January 21, 2008, Canton, MI -  Today at approximately 6:00 p.m., Canton police and fire responded to the area of Beck and Saltz Rd on a report on an injury accident. Patrol officers were the first on scene and rendered aid until the Canton Fire (Advanced Life Support) arrived and transported the female driver to St. Jospeh Hospital. The male driver was taken to the hospital by his parents.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 17-year old female Canton resident and student at the PCEP high school, stopped her Toyota car on westbound Saltz at Beck. The driver hesitated for a moment before proceeding across Beck when she was struck by a northbound pickup truck driven by a 16 year-old male Canton resident who is also a student at PCEP high school.

The male was treated at U of M hospital for minor injuries. The female was listed in very critical condition. The case remains under investigation by Canton’s Accident Investigation Team. At this time there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played any part in this crash.
