Condominium Fire
Incident #2128-09
660 Concord, Canton, MI
1933 hours, May 15, 2009
At the above date and time Canton Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call of a condo fire at 660 Concord. Both fire and police departments responded to the fire. Upon arrival firefighters reported smoke and flames coming from one unit of a three unit building. All occupants of the building were safely evacuated including the 55-year old resident of the involved unit and her pets.
The departments 100-foot platform truck was one of the initial pieces of apparatus committed to the fire. The first due squad and engine from station #1 had responded to a previous medical incident when the call came in. The platform was first arrival and initiated suppression operations while additional units responded from stations #2 and #3. The platform was also used to place a ventilation crew on the roof, which was instrumental in containing the fire.
Although the fire extended into the attic, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, containing it to the unit of origin. No estimate of damage is readily available however the unit involved sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. The adjoining units sustained minimal smoke damage and those occupants were permitted back in after the fire was extinguished however they did opt to seek alternate shelter for the night.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire was accidental. The occupant indicated, and firefighters were able to confirm, that the fire started from a lamp in the living room.
