Paramedics receive new piece of equipment to aid patients
May 8, 2009, Canton, MI This week a new tool was added to the Canton paramedics arsenal. The Continuous Positive Airway Pressure device or CPAP, looks much like a regular oxygen mask, and is used for critically ill patients suffering from breathing problems like congestive heart failure. When CPAP is used patients will experience an almost immediate breathing improvement, and decrease the need for intubations.
All of the firefighter/paramedics have been trained on the device and it has been put in service on all of the department's rescue units.
