May 21, 2009, Canton, MI - On May 18, 2009 Kimberly and Robert Smith of Canton were arraigned in 35th District Court on charges for embezzlement from a Plymouth-Canton Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) fund.

Kimberly and Robert are each being charged with one count of Embezzlement of Funds Greater than $1,000.00 but less than $20,000.00. Robert Smith was also arraigned on an additional charge of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property Greater then $1,000.00 but less than $20,000.00. Both crimes are felonies that carry a penalty of five years imprisonment and/or a $10,000.00 fine, or three times the amount embezzled or concealed, whichever is greater.

Bond for both defendants was set at $5,000 personal by Judge Ronald Lowe. Their preliminary exam is scheduled for May 29, 2009 in 35th District Court in Plymouth.
