Police Explorers compete in Governor's Cup competition

April 27, 2009, Canton, MI  The Canton Police Department Explorer Unit recently competed in the 29th Annual Governors Cup Explorer Competition held in Alpena, Michigan. Approximately 30 Explorer teams from around the state competed in categories including: crime scene investigation, domestic violence scenario, felony traffic stop, traffic accident and building search. Cantons team won Third Place in both the crime scene investigation and felony traffic stop competitions, and took Third Place overall at the event.

The Canton Police Explorer Unit is made up of students ages 14-20 who are seriously interested in exploring a career in law enforcement. The program provides them with serious, realistic exposure of the law enforcement profession. In addition to receiving career exposure, the Explorer program emphasizes life skills, citizenship, character education and leadership experience for its participants. Explorers must also maintain the physical, moral and scholastic standards required to be a member of the program.

Cantons Explorer program is funded through private donations and community fundraisers. If you are interested in making a donation or hosting a fundraiser, please contact Canton Police Departments Explorer coordinator Sergeant Jim Harrison at 734/394-5400.
