Holmes house fire update
April 28, 2009, Canton, MI Initial investigations conducted by the Canton Fire Investigation Team reveal that the house fire at 45452 Holmes on April 25 was accidental in nature. The fire started in a bedroom from an undetermined electrical device. The department will work with the insurance companies to determine the specific cause. Smoke detectors played a significant role in alerting the occupant and allow her to exit the home. While exiting the home through the garage, the power went out leaving the occupant in the dark. At that time a neighbor, who saw the fire, force entry into the garage, made contact with the occupant and led her to safety.
The homeowners cats are in good condition.

2207 hours, April 25, 2009
At the above date and time Canton Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call of a house fire at 45452 Holmes. Both fire and police departments responded to the fire. Upon arrival firefighters reported flames coming from a single story ranch type home. One occupant, an elderly female, was home at the time of the fire. She was rescued from the home when a neighbor forced entry into the garage and led her to safety. She was in good condition after the incident however she was transported to Oakwood Canton by family members for observation.
Wearing protective turnout gear, including self contained breathing apparatus, firefighters entered the home and extinguished the fire. Simultaneously other firefighters initiated ventilation operations to evacuate smoke and heat from the home.
During extinguishment two cats were located and were transported to an emergency veterinary clinic by the police. Their condition is not known at this time.
There were no other reported injuries.
There was extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the home. An estimate of damage has not yet been determined.
The fire investigation team is on the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
