June 23, 2009, Canton, MI - Canton Police Department held its 23rd Annual Awards & Citations Ceremony last night at Cherry Hill Village Theater in Canton. Approximately 150 people were in attendance to honor this year’s award recipients for their significant contributions and meritorious service in law enforcement.

Public Safety Director John R. Santomauro and his command staff presented over 20 awards including individual and unit commendations, department citations, and life saving awards. This year’s Officer of the Year award went to Police Officer Kevin Rize for his professionalism and ongoing dedication to the department’s training program. Rize has been instrumental in training officers on defensive tactics and firearms as well as tasers, felony traffic stops and emergency vehicle operations. He has proven himself as a natural leader with a desire to develop the talents and knowledge of his peers and supervisors.
