Police department selects new School Resource Officer
May 20, 2009, Canton, MI Canton Police Officer Sara Boritzki has been selected for a three-year assignment as the departments new School Resource Officer (SRO).
Boritzki was hired by the department as a police officer in 2005. She earned her Bachelors Degree from Western Michigan University and has a Masters Degree in Conflict Resolution from Wayne State University.
Boritzki will join current SRO Joe Mullally, assigned to the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park which encompasses Plymouth, Canton and Salem High Schools. School Resource Officers are stationed at the high schools to enhance the level of policing on the large campus consisting of approximately 6,000 students. They handle criminal complaints on campus ranging from theft to drug possession. SROs also patrol after-school functions and provide traffic enforcement on campus.
