June 17, 2009, Canton, MI – On May 28, 2009 Canton Police Department received a report of a suspicious death of a swan that had been nesting near a pond located in the 4000 block of Pond Run Court in Canton. Neighbors reported finding the dead swan in one of their yards on May 24, and suspected it had possibly been shot.

The investigator assigned to the case made contact with a local veterinary clinic in Canton that was willing to perform an autopsy and X-ray of the swan to determine the cause of death. The doctor’s autopsy report stated that he found no evidence of the swan being shot by a firearm and determined the swan most likely died of natural causes.
