Two men charged in separate incidents of fleeing from police

February 19, 2010, Canton, MI  Yesterday 35-year old Robert Joseph McPartlin was arrested following a police pursuit initiated by a Canton police officer who attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. the officer was behind the 1999 Ford Mustang with a broken taillight, and upon checking the plate registration discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen. At this point the officer activated his lights and siren to affect a traffic stop. The vehicle, being driven by McPartlin, refused to pull over continuing on I-275. The vehicle was eventually stopped in Oakland County with spike strips laid out by troopers from Michigan State Police.

McPartlin was taken into custody and transported back to Canton Police Headquarters. He was arraigned today in 35th District Court on multiple charges including one count of Unlawful Driving Away a Motor Vehicle, a 5-year felony; two counts of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, a 5-year felony; one count of Fleeing a Police Officer 3rd Degree, a 5-year felony; and Habitual Offender Fourth, punishable by life in prison.

Judge James A. Plakas ordered a $250,000 cash bond for McPartlin and set his preliminary exam date for March 5, 2010 at 35th District Court in Plymouth.

In a separate incident around midnight on February 17, 2010, a Canton police officer attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle being driven by 23-year old Brandon Merrill Henton of Belleville. Henton led the officer on a pursuit which eventually ended with Henton driving to his residence. Henton resisted as the officer’s attempt to put him under arrest. Van Buren officers arrived on the scene and assisted with the arrest.

Henton was arraigned today in 35th District Court on one count of Fleeing a Police Officer, a 5-year felony; and one count of Resisting a Police Officer, a 2-year felony.

Henton was ordered a $10,000 cash bond by Judge Ronald W. Lowe and given a preliminary exam date of March 5, 2010 at 35th District Court in Plymouth.
