Police Department signs on with Nixle
January 28, 2010, Canton, MI – On February 1, 2010 the Canton Police Department will begin using Nixle, a new web-based information system. Nixle is a service that allows subscribers to receive trusted, up-to-date information pertinent to where they live, work or visit. Subscribers can sign-up (free of charge) and choose the information they want to receive, for the locations they want. Notifications can range from urgent public safety alerts to less time-sensitive advisories and community information. Messages can be received via email or text message, based on subscriber preference. "When an incident occurs, officers can log into a secure website and enter pertinent information which is then sent to subscribers," says Community Relations Sergeant Mark Gajeski. "Within minutes we can reach thousands of individuals with information such as a neighborhood crime alert, or missing person." Nixle is a free service to the public; subscribers manage their own profile online and can cancel at any time. Email address and phone numbers are not used for any other purpose. Nixle is replacing the department’s first information system, Silent Partner.
