Canton Police Department Announces Lieutenant Promotion

After an extensive testing process, Canton Police Department promoted Sergeant Todd Mutchler to the rank of Lieutenant today. Lieutenant Mutchler was hired by the department in 1988 as a patrol officer. Mutchler has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University and a Masters Degree in Interdisciplinary Technology also from EMU.

During his 18 years of service with the department, Mutchler attended Police Staff & Command at Eastern Michigan University, worked as a SWAT instructor for the Western-Wayne Special Operations Team, and received several awards including Officer of the Year in 1997.

According to Public Safety Director John Santomauro, eight very qualified candidates participated in one of the most extensive, challenging testing processes he has seen in 36 years of law enforcement. The components of the test provided an in-depth evaluation of the candidates' communication, written and leadership skills. "Lieutenant Mutchler has had a highly successful career with the department and we view him as a valuable asset to the leadership team," Santomauro stated.

Lieutenant Todd Mutchler lives in Manchester with his wife Kay and their three children Amanda, 16, Alex, 13, and Aaron, 6.
