Canton Police Department Hires First New Officer from their Career Development Program
The Canton Police Department recently promoted Jeffrey Seifert to the rank of Police Officer. Seifert worked for the department for five years as a Public Safety Service Officer (PSSO) and was the first person to participate in the department’s Career Development Program. This program was designed for PSSO's who are interested in a career in law enforcement or firefighting. After four years of service and employee development as a PSSO, eligible personnel are sponsored by the department to attend either a police or fire academy. Upon successful completion of an academy the employee will be given first preference for an open position as a police officer or firefighter.
Seifert, 35, of Canton, received his Associates Degree from Washtenaw Community College and graduated 2nd in his class at the Wayne County Regional Police Academy. Seifert also received several awards from his academy class including the Douglas Pederson Scholarship Award "Outstanding Recruit", Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards "Outstanding Performance Award" and an award for "Unselfish Commitment and Dedication to Excellence".
All candidates for the Canton Police Department go through a vigorous testing process that includes both written and physical agility tests, oral board, medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background check.
