Canton Public Safety releases impact study and after-action report on grand opening of IKEA

Canton Public Safety Department has released its impact study and after action report detailing events and expenses related to the opening of the IKEA store located at Ford & Haggerty Road in Canton.

The impact study was completed prior to the opening to forecast the long-term impact of the new store on the surrounding areas and levels of calls for service the department might expect. The after-action report discusses the impact on traffic during the five-day grand opening period and details expenses incurred by the Canton Public Safety Department as well as neighboring departments providing mutual aid. As agreed upon prior to the store opening, IKEA is reimbursing all costs incurred by Canton's Public Safety Department and assisting area departments during and after the grand opening.

Follow-up recommendations are made in the report to address pedestrian crossing and overflow parking issues. Canton continues to work with IKEA officials, Michigan Department of Transportation, Wayne County Road Commission and surrounding businesses to ensure smooth traffic flow and ample parking.
