To celebrate National Fire Prevention Week, the Canton Fire Department in conjunction with Canton Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Fire Prevention poster contest for elementary school-age children. The children were asked to draw, paint or color a 12" x 18" picture relating to this year's National Fire Prevention Week theme, "Prevent Cooking Fires: Watch what you heat."
Posters were judged in two groups by age, with prizes being given out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each group. Prizes include $50 savings bonds and free passes to Glo Golf and Zap Zone. First place winners will also receive lunch for their classmates along with a couple other surprises. For more information, contact Fire Inspector Nichole Hamilton at 734/394-5459.
