Canton Fire Department takes delivery of two new fire engines

For Immediate Release: November 28, 2006

The Canton Fire Department has just taken delivery of two new fire engines that were ordered last March. The fire trucks are 2006 Pierce fire engines that were manufactured in Appleton, Wisconsin. The trucks were custom built for the Canton Fire Department and feature an integrated foam system. The use of foam is becoming more common place during the initial attack on structure fires as it enhances the extinguishment characteristics of water, resulting in quicker extinguishment and less property damage.

The trucks also feature four pre-connected 1 3/4 " attack lines, a 1,500 gallon per minute pump, a 500 gallon water tank and the ability to carry over 1,600 feet of fire hose. The cost of each truck was approximately $384,000.

The trucks will be assigned to Fire Station #2 on Warren west of Haggerty, and #3 on Denton north of Cherry Hill. Firefighters are scheduled to receive training on use of the new foam system within the next two weeks.
