Suspect charged in local bank robbery

November 19, 2007, Canton, MI - Daniel Girard Abbott, age 51 of Livonia, was arrested by Canton police officers this weekend in connection with the bank robbery occurring at the Charter One Bank on Friday.  Abbott was arraigned on one count of Bank Robbery, a felony punishable up to life in prison, and one count of Habitual 2nd Offender, a felony punishable by up to one and one-half times his robbery penalty.  Abbott was given a $5,000 cash bond, and his preliminary exam is scheduled for November 30, 2007 at 35th District Court in Plymouth.  Abbott was turned over to Wayne Police Department for similar charges.

November 16, 2007, Canton, MI – Canton Police Department is investigating a bank robbery that occurred today at 1:25 p.m., at the Charter One Bank on Ford & Haggerty Road.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 40-50 years of age.  He has dark hair with a full mustache and a dark-greying full beard.  He was wearing a denim button shirt, and dark glasses.  The suspect handed the teller a note stating this was a robbery, requested $50 and $100 bills.  His hand was in his pocket and he implied he had a handgun.  The suspect left south of the building on foot.
Police are asking anyone recognizing the suspect in the attached photos to contact the Canton Police Department immediately at 734/394-5400.
