October 22, 2007, Canton, MI – Today William Floyd Craner, 45 of Belleville, was sentenced to 13-1/2 to 30 years by Judge Diane Hathaway in Third Circuit Court.  Craner pled no contest to a Second Degree Murder charge resulting from an accident on July 15, 2007 that killed Anthony Salvatore Quasarano, 46, of Romulus.

UPDATE:  07/18/07
William Floyd Craner, 45 of Belleville, was arraigned today in 35th District Court.  Craner was denied bond and was remanded to Wayne County Jail by Judge Mike Gerou.  His preliminary exam is scheduled for Friday, July 27, at 35th District Court, 660 Plymouth Road, in Plymouth.

UPDATE:  07/17/07
The suspect driver involved in the fatal car accident on Sunday, July 15, in Canton, will be arraigned on Wednesday, July 18, at 11:00 a.m., in 35th District Court in Plymouth.  The driver is being charged with 2nd Degree Murder, punishable by up to life in prison, 1st Degree Fleeing & Eluding Police, a 15-year felony; Manslaughter with a Motor Vehicle, a 15-year felony; and Felony with a Motor Vehicle, a advisory charge that can increase the sentence of the other charges.

The suspect driver’s name will not be released until arraignment.  The 35th District Court is located at 660 Plymouth Road, in Plymouth, Michigan.

UPDATE:   07/16/07
Family members have been notified in the death of Anthony Salvatore Quasarano, 46, of Romulus.  Quasarano was the driver of the motorcycle hit at approximately 9:00 p.m., Sunday evening on Michigan Avenue in Canton. 

Police are still investigating the crash, and plan to take the investigation to the Wayne County Prosecutor later today or early tomorrow.  The driver of the car was released from the hospital, and is currently being held by Canton Police.

ORIGINAL RELEASE 07-16-07
On 07/15/07 at 9:05 p.m. the Canton police Department received a 911 call from a female reporting that she was following a vehicle (eastbound Michigan east of Beck) that had struck her car and fled the scene without stopping and identifying. She reported that the accident occurred in another jurisdiction however the vehicle was presently in Canton.

Canton police observed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over however the driver accelerated and continued to flee eastbound on Michigan Ave.  As the vehicle approached Haggerty it collided with a motorcyclist who was also traveling east on Michigan Ave.  The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital and is being treated for his injuries. The driver of the motorcycle, a 46 year old man from Romulus, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Michigan State police were called in for the accident investigation.
No names are being release until next of kin are notified
At present, the case remains under investigation.
