Firefighter's Charity Foundation Records Another Successful Fundraiser

August 3, 2007, Canton, Michigan.

This week the Canton Firefighter’s Charity Foundation held its 11th Annual Greg Unger Memorial Golf Outing at Pheasant Run Golf Club in Canton.  This year’s outing proved to be the most successful to date, with 220 golfers filling the course to capacity.

Due to the generosity of the many golfers and sponsors, the foundation was able to raise just over $17,000.  A portion of that money has already been donated to this year’s recipients including a 35-year old firefighter in Westland who has been stricken with brain cancer, and the Selfridge Community Relief Fund.  This relief fund was established to help meet the financial needs of military families whose loved ones have been deployed overseas.  Local families will receive assistance with monthly bills and with purchasing food and clothing.  The remainder of the money will be donated locally by the foundation, as needs arise.  In the past, the foundation has made donations to the U-M Burn Center and Mott Children’s Hospital as well as to many local families in need of assistance due to loss from fire or life-threatening illness.

Canton firefighter and golf outing organizer Mike Caruso states, “On behalf of the charity foundation I would like to thank the many golfers who generously participated in this year’s event, despite the extreme heat conditions.  We would also like to thank the local businesses who donated and sponsored the event, especially Yazaki of Canton, and ST Microelectronics in Livonia.”  He adds, “Without all of you, this event wouldn’t be the big fundraising success it has become over the past several years.”

If you would like to make a donation to the Canton Firefighter’s Charity Foundation, contact the Canton Fire Department at 734/398-5263.
