November 30, 2007, Canton, MI – This month Canton Police Department announced the promotion of Sergeant Jerry Hardesty to the rank of lieutenant. 

Lieutenant Hardesty was hired by the department in 1988 as a police officer, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1997.  Hardesty earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Leadership from Concordia University in 2001, and his Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Administration also from Concordia University in 2004.

According to Public Safety Director John Santomauro, “Eight qualified candidates participated in one of the most extensive and challenging testing processes we’ve held.  The components of the test provided an in-depth evaluation of the candidates’ communication and leadership skills.” 

Hardesty is the third lieutenant promoted in the last year and a half to fill vacancies created by retirement.
