Police develop Identity Theft Packet for victim's of identity theft

August 21, 2007, Canton, MI – Canton Police Department has developed an Identity Theft Victim’s Packet intended to assist with investigations related to identity theft cases.  This packet also contains information that will assist victims in the correction of their credit and will help ensure that they are not responsible for debts incurred by the identity theft.

In addition, the packet includes information that will allow victims to obtain financial records related to fraudulent accounts.  Without these financial records, police would not be able to conduct an investigation for prosecution.

“We find victims of identity theft often don’t know where to begin to correct their credit.  I think this packet we have put together will assist them in getting their financial records back in order, as well as provide us with the necessary information to proceed with our criminal investigation,” says Canton Police Sergeant Rick Pomorski.

Police plan to hand out the Identity Theft Victim’s Packet to everyone reporting this type of crime.  The packet is also available for pick up at the Canton Police Department and can be downloaded from their website at www.cantonpublicafety.org
