Public Safety hires new ordinance officer

October 26, 2007, Canton, MI - Canton Public Safety Department recently hired Kay Longton as a new ordinance officer to their Ordinance Enforcement Unit.  Candidates for employment with Canton Public Safety go through a rigorous testing process that includes a written test, interviews, medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background check.

Longton completed her orientation last week, and is currently going through the department’s training program. Once trained, she will be one of four ordinance officers responsible for enforcing property standards in the community.  In addition, each ordinance officer is assigned to a community policing team, allowing them work directly with police officers and fire inspectors on problems occurring in their commercial and residential areas.  Longton will be assigned to Community Policing Area 3, made up primarily of the southeastern quadrant of Canton.
