Police officials attend motorcycle demonstration

September 13, 2007, Canton, MI – Canton Police Department recently hosted a policy motorcycle demonstration presented by BMW Motorcycles of Southeast Michigan.  Officials from area police departments were also invited, with 20 attending the event that highlighted BMW’s R1200RT-P (police) motorcycle.  Officers in attendance were given the opportunity to view the motorcycle, ask questions and take a test ride.  Test results from the 2007 Michigan State Police Evaluation were also provided.

“It is always good business practice to keep purchasing options open.  By looking at a variety of police motorcycles being manufactured, we are able to evaluate our purchase decision based on safety features, technology and cost-effectiveness,” says Director of Public Safety John Santomauro.  “We were pleased to be able to host this event, and provide an opportunity for area departments to explore their purchasing options,” he adds.

The BMW police motorcycle will also be tested by the Michigan State Police during their 2008 vehicle evaluation later this month.

Canton Police Department has no plans to change from Harley Davidson to BMW motorcycles in the immediate future.  The department has placed an order to lease six Harley Davidson police motorcycles for 2008.
