Canton Police Department promotes new deputy chief
October 16, 2007, Canton, MI - After a highly-competitive, in-depth testing process, Canton Police Department announced the promotion of Lieutenant Patrick Nemecek to the rank of Deputy Chief today.
Deputy Chief Nemecek was hired by the department in 1987 as a patrol officer. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1989, and Lieutenant in 1993. Nemecek earned his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Detroit – Mercy, and his Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University. He also graduated from Northwestern’s Police Staff and Command School.
Public Safety Director John Santomauro stated, “I am satisfied that the process has identified one of the department’s most capable leaders in the organization. The focus was placed on leadership, and I am confident the process worked.”
Nemecek will be assigned as Commander of the Staff Operations Division, filling a vacancy created by retiring Deputy Chief Alex Wilson. He will be responsible for overseeing the operation of the division which includes the detective bureau, crime prevention, ordinance enforcement, records bureau and property retention, along with several specialized units including accident investigation and Western-Wayne Criminal Investigations.
“Pat has had a highly successful career with the department. I view him as a valuable asset to the highest level of the leadership team,” Santomauro adds.
Nemecek has been married to his wife, Karen, for 21 years. They have two children ages 19 and 18.
