Fire Prevention Poster Contest winners announced

December 18, 2007, Canton, MI – Last week, Canton Fire Department held its annual poster contest award presentation at the Canton Administration Building.  This contest was begun back in 1979 by Retired Fire Marshal Art Winkel.  Co-sponsoring the contest with the fire department was Lisa Lewis and Diane Cojei from the Canton Chamber of Commerce. 

Posters were judged in two categories:  First -Third grade, and Fourth - Sixth grade.  Posters were to follow this year’s National Fire Prevention Week theme of making a fire escape plan.  First, second and third place prizes include a $50 savings bond and free passes to Glo Golf/Zap Zone.  First Place winners also receive lunch for their classmates.  This year’s winners are:

First – Third Grades:
1st Place – Erin Berger, 3rd grade at Dodson Elementary
2nd Place – Spencer Albin, 3rd grade at Tonda Elementary
3rd Place – Priyanka Pottigari, 1st grade at Canton Charter Academy
Honorable Mention – Elizabeth Manning, 3rd grade at Plymouth Christian Academy
Cameron Denby, 2nd grade at Hoben Elementary
  
Fourth – Sixth Grades:
1st Place – Maddie Harvath & Makenzie Shae Cashero, 4th grade at Dodson Elementary
2nd Place – Katelynn Barkell, 6th grade at Plymouth Christian Academy
3rd Place – Haleemah Shajie, 5th grade at Tonda Elementary
Honorable Mention – Chloe Homco, 5th grade at Canton Charter Academy
Obi Okoli, 5th grade at Dodson Elementary

The first place posters will be displayed at the following locations:

December 13-20 - Canton Fire Station #1
December 20-27 - Canton Administration Building
Dec. 28-Jan. 8   - Lou LaRiche Chevrolet in Plymouth
January 8-15     - McDonalds on Ford Road in Canton
January 15-22   - Summit on the Park
January 22-29   -  AAA of Michigan Canton Office

Posters will be returned to students after January 29.
