For Release 04/23/07

The Canton Police Department is investigating what they believe may be three related home invasions occurring over the past eight months. All three home invasions occurred in the area of Sheldon and Warren Roads in the late night/early morning hours. In each of these incidents the suspect enters the home through an unlocked window or door and approaches a female resident who sleeping. When confronted by the victim, the suspect flees the home on foot.

The suspect has been described as a white male in his 20's, with short, brown hair. Two of the victims stated they believe the suspect may possibly be developmentally-challenged.

Detectives are actively working the case, and are in the process of having a composite sketch made that will be released to the public as soon as it becomes available. Nothing has been taken from any of the homes and nobody has been hurt. Police are working on several motives at present and have not discounted any theories.

In the meantime, police recommend all residents securely lock their doors and windows at night. Residents should also light up the outside of their house with either standard, flood or motion-sensor lighting, and keep shrubs and trees around the house trimmed to provide a clear view of all entry ways. Canton Police Department has a 10-page brochure with tips and information on how to keep your home secure. A pdf format of the document can be accessed at www.canton-mi.org/publicsafety or residents may call the Crime Prevention Unit at 734-394-5420 to request a copy.
