The Canton Police Department has one full-time police officer assigned to its Motor Carrier Unit.  This officer is responsible for enforcing the commercial vehicle code in Canton.  This code is similar to the traffic code, but is written specifically for both large and small commercial vehicles.  It includes laws pertaining to truck equipment, truck safety, licensing, permits, log books and weight.  

Canton continues to experience a high volume of commercial traffic on its roads daily.  Because of the size of some of these vehicles, safety is always a concern for motorists sharing the roadway with these larger vehicles.  The motor carrier officer is assigned to patrol the highways and roads in Canton, keeping watch on commercial vehicles passing through.
