The primary purpose of the Selective Enforcement Unit is to reduce traffic accidents and crime through high visibility and directed patrols. The S.E.U. works proactively through high visibility patrol in parks, major intersections, and schools. The unit also works reactively by responding to complaints from Canton residents and businesses. The unit saturates an area and takes swift enforcement action on all violations. Patrol officers, motorcycle officers, semi-marked patrol units, and state-of-the-art equipment is used in S.E.U. deployments.

Decoy Operation
The Selective Enforcement Unit also maintains the Decoy Operation. The Decoy Operation sends minors into local establishments to attempt to purchase alcohol or tobacco products. Publicity related to the decoy operation has made business owners in the area more aware of the seriousness of alcohol and tobacco sales to minors. The Canton Police have found local bars and stores to be compliant with checking identification most of the time. The decoy operation continues to be a great success.
