U.S. Olympian Allison Schmitt To Be Honored During Canton’s Picnic In The Park Community Event
Friday, September 24, 2021
Canton Township will honor U.S. Olympian Allison Schmitt with a Special Recognition on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., during Canton’s Picnic in the Park free community event at the Heritage Park Amphitheater.
Canton Township is proud to recognize our very own hometown hero, who is a four-time Olympian and integral member of the USA Swim Team, who medaled in two events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Well-wishers are invited to show their support of this world-class athlete during a special presentation that will be led by Canton Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak.
Schmitt is a four-time Olympian, who has earned a total of 10 Olympic medals (four gold, three silver, and three bronze) throughout her swimming career. She is currently tied for the fourth most decorated female U.S. Olympian and is only the third American woman to medal at four Olympics. Participants who attend this free outdoor community event will have an opportunity to see Schmitt receive this special recognition, as well as hear her discuss her Olympic journey during this presentation. Due to time constraints, autographs and photo opportunities will not be available. This presentation will be held at Canton’s Heritage Park Amphitheater, located behind the Summit on the Park at 46000 Summit Parkway in Canton, MI.
Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating and to prepare for wet ground conditions, due to recent heavy rains. This outdoor event will only be canceled in the event of severe weather or lighting. As a reminder, Canton’s Picnic in the Park community event features two stages of live entertainment, tasty dinner options from food trucks and area restaurants, a beer and wine garden, and will culminate with a fireworks extravaganza at dusk.
